Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 84 asked in the Legislative Council on 18 February 2020 by Hon Tim Clifford

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

CLIMATE CHANGE POLICY — ELECTRIC VEHICLES

84. Hon TIM CLIFFORD to the minister representing the Minister for Innovation and ICT:

I refer to the WAtoday article from 7 February 2020 titled ''Chicken or the egg: State broods on electric car report for entire year'' regarding the electric vehicles infrastructure strategic planning report commissioned by the state government's Electric Vehicles Working Group.

(1) Why was the report only recently released despite being completed in December 2018?

(2) When were cabinet ministers briefed on the report?

(3) Is the report considered to be the EV working group's preliminary recommendations to facilitate the uptake of EVs, as stated by the minister in response to question without notice 270 asked on 2 April 2019; and, if not, has the minister received the working group's preliminary recommendations?

Hon DARREN WEST replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. On behalf of the Minister for Regional Development representing the Minister for Innovation and ICT, I give the following answer.

(1) The report was prepared for the purpose of consideration by the infrastructure subcommittee of the Western Australian Electric Vehicles Working Group.

(2) Relevant ministers were briefed on the report at various times during 2019.

(3) The recommendations in the report, along with other pieces of advice, are being considered by the Western Australian Electric Vehicles Working Group in developing a draft state electric vehicle strategy for government.
