FIREARMS — MINISTERIAL WORKING GROUP

1105. Hon RICK MAZZA to the minister representing the Minister for Police:

I refer to my question without notice 1086 yesterday regarding the firearms reform ministerial working group that was formed to assess the implementation of the 143 recommendations in the Law Reform Commission of Western Australia's 105th report, ''Review of the Firearms Act 1973 (WA)''.

(1) What is the expected date that the draft bill covering the first tranche of recommendations will be provided to the ministerial working group for consultation?

(2) What is the expected date that the ministerial working group will be reconvened to work through the second tranche of recommendations?

Hon STEPHEN DAWSON replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of this question. The following answer has been provided to me by the Minister for Police.

(1)–(2) Work is progressing towards having a bill ready to introduce in 2020. The ministerial working group will be reconvened when a bill is available.
