HORIZON POWER —
TROPICAL CYCLONE DAMIEN — POWER SUPPLY
87. Hon ROBIN CHAPPLE to the minister representing the
Minister for Energy:
I refer to the impacts of tropical
cyclone Damien and the impacts caused by a Horizon Power generation issue in
the region of Karratha and the large number of electrical devices and
appliances that were damaged or destroyed as a result of a power surge that
occurred at that time.
(1) What caused the power surge?
(2) When the power surge occurred,
was it at the time of failure or reconnection?
(3) Will the
people and organisations who have had appliances destroyed or burnt out as a result
of the power surge be compensated?
(4) If no to (3), why not?
(5) If yes to (3), what will be the
compensation process?
Hon
STEPHEN DAWSON replied:
I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. The following information has been provided to me
by the Minister for Energy.
(1) Horizon Power
has advised that it does not have any evidence of a power surge occurring while
tropical cyclone Damien affected Karratha. However, there was an interruption
to mains power supply for several hours to the Karratha area during the
cyclone.
(2)–(5) Not applicable.
