Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 1003 asked in the Legislative Council on 17 September 2019 by Hon Simon O’Brien

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

ELLENBROOK RAIL LINE — WHITEMAN PARK

1003. Hon SIMON O'BRIEN to the minister representing the Minister for Transport:

I refer to the government's plans to build a railway through Whiteman Park.

(1) What zoning or other land use changes are required to enable the subject land to be used for the purpose, and what mechanisms will be employed to achieve those changes?

(2) What is the size of the area to be excised from Whiteman Park?

(3) Does the government have any plans, however preliminary, for the area west of the proposed rail line; and, if so, what are they?

Hon ALANNA CLOHESY replied:

On behalf of the Minister for Environment, I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. The Minister for Transport has provided the following answer.

(1) Legislation will be introduced to allow for the rail corridor. It should be noted that the former government planned for the NorthLink road alignment through the middle of Bush Forever land within Whiteman Park.

(2) The final route definition is in progress and more information will be made available when details are finalised. It should be noted that the former government's Whiteman Park strategic plan planned to use the Marshall Road lands for a cemetery, a regional sporting complex, and development areas for youth attractions.

(3) The member is asked to specify which area west of the proposed rail line he is referring to. The minister will then endeavour to provide a more detailed response.
