Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 1179 asked in the Legislative Council on 21 November 2018 by Hon Diane Evers

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

SOUTHERN FORESTS IRRIGATION SCHEME

1179. Hon DIANE EVERS to the Minister for Regional Development:

I refer to the proposed southern forests irrigation scheme.

(1) Will the proposed pipeline route cross any private property that is not owned by any contributors?

(2) If yes to (1) —

(a) will permission be required; and

(b) will private landowners be compensated?

(3) If yes to (2), how will the project proceed if permission is not granted?

(4) Has the department received any objections to the proposed pipeline route?

(5) If yes to (4), how many and what was the nature of the objections?

Hon ALANNAH MacTIERNAN replied:

I thank the member for the question.

(1) Yes. A preliminary pipeline route has been developed that traverses both crown land and private land—subscribers and non-subscribers to the southern forests irrigation scheme.

(2) (a)–(b) Yes.

(3) Negotiations will be led by the project proponent, Southern Forests Irrigation Co-operative Ltd. All efforts will be made to reach a negotiated outcome with all landowners impacted by the pipeline route, including the rerouting of the pipeline, if it is economically feasible to do this.

(4) No.

(5) Not applicable.
