Parliamentary Questions

Question On Notice No. 2600 asked in the Legislative Council on 23 October 2019 by Hon Colin De Grussa

Question Directed to the: Minister for Environment representing the Minister for Energy
Parliament: 40 Session: 1

Question

I refer to recent media reports in which the Western Australia Council of Social Services voiced concern about the increasing number of power disconnections in Western Australia, with a record 22,000 disconnections last financial year due to high power prices and, I ask, will the Minister provide the following information regarding these disconnections:
(a) how many of disconnections occurred outside of the metropolitan region;
(b) a breakdown of the number of disconnections in (a) by postcode; and
(c) how many of these disconnections occurred in the following regions:
(i) Goldfields Esperance region;
(ii) Great Southern region;
(iii) Gascoyne region;
(iv) Kimberley region;
(v) Mid West region;
(vi) Peel region;
(vii) Wheatbelt region; and
(viii) Pilbara region?

In the 2018-19 financial year there were not 22,000 disconnections due to high power prices. Western Australia’s electricity prices for household consumers are below South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales, the states with privatised electricity businesses.
