GAS SUPPLY — AUSTRALIAN INDUSTRIAL ENERGY

1106. Hon CHARLES SMITH to the minister representing the Minister for State Development, Jobs and Trade:

I refer to EnergyAustralia being the first customer to sign up to buy gas from Port Kembla in New South Wales, which is to be operated by a joint venture called Australian Industrial Energy consisting of Japan's JERA Co Inc and Marubeni Corporation, and mining magnate Andrew Forrest's Squadron Energy. Has the government held any talks with Squadron Energy or AIE to ship Western Australian gas to the east coast?

Hon ALANNAH MacTIERNAN replied:

The Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation advises that it has not held any talks with Squadron Energy or Australian Industrial Energy in relation to shipping Western Australia's gas to the east coast.
