Parliamentary Questions

Question On Notice No. 638 asked in the Legislative Council on 13 March 2018 by Hon Martin Aldridge

Question Directed to the: Minister for Education and Training
Parliament: 40 Session: 1

Question

I refer to the John Willcock College in Geraldton, and I ask:
(a) are there any plans to rename the college;
(b) what will the name of the college be, as a result of any plans identified in (a); and
(c) what are the costs associated with renaming the college?

Answered on 10 April 2018

  1. Yes.
  2. Champion Bay Senior High School. The name was determined in collaboration with the local community, parents, staff and students in accordance with the Department’s Naming and Facilities and Part Facilities policy. This process was undertaken from May to September 2017. The proposed name was put forward for endorsement in October 2017. I approved the preferred name, Champion Bay Senior High School, on 1 November 2017. In late 2017, the school community was advised that the name of the school would change from the start of 2019.
  3. The exact cost has not been determined, but it will encompass changes to the logo on items such as the uniform and stationery, as well as signage and websites. A budget is made available to support schools where decisions made centrally result in additional costs to the school or community.
