Parliamentary Questions

Question On Notice No. 2544 asked in the Legislative Council on 26 September 2019 by Hon Tim Clifford

Question Directed to the: Minister for Environment
Parliament: 40 Session: 1

Question

I refer to the Report and Recommendations of the Environmental Protection Authority published on 25 September 2019 regarding Ministerial Statement 800 for the Gorgon Gas Development, and I ask:
(a) how much reservoir carbon dioxide has been removed during gas processing operations as part of the Gorgon project since the Commencement of Gas Processing Operations, as defined in the EPA’s Report and Recommendations;
(b) how much reservoir carbon dioxide is projected to be removed during gas processing in the five years from 14 July 2016 to 14 July 2021;
(c) how much reservoir carbon dioxide has Chevron injected into the Dupuy Formation to date;
(d) how much reservoir carbon dioxide does Chevron predict will be injected by 14 July 2021; and
(e) how much reservoir carbon dioxide does Chevron predict will be injected by the close of the Gorgon Gas Development?

Answered on 31 October 2019

(a–e) Further to my answer to Question on Notice 2543, the compliance starting point for Commencement of Gas Processing Operations is still being finalised. Furthermore, the reporting period for Gorgon’s Annual Environmental Performance Reports under Ministerial Statement 800 is 10 August to 9 August the following year, which does not align with the dates in your question, so assumptions would be required to provide the requested information. Despite this, and in the interest of transparency, I table the Gorgon Gas Development annual Environmental Performance Reports for 2016, 2017 and 2018 which include information on the volume of carbon dioxide removed.
