Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 1053 asked in the Legislative Council on 19 September 2019 by Hon Tim Clifford

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

LNG RESERVES

1053. Hon TIM CLIFFORD to the minister representing the Minister for Mines and Petroleum:

(1) Has the state government calculated the projected future domestic and foreign demand of WA's LNG reserves; and, if so, would the minister please table it?

(2) Has the state government put in place a strategy to prevent a stranded asset scenario if foreign entities turn away from purchasing WA's LNG resources due to their own renewable energy uptake?

Hon ALANNAH MacTIERNAN replied:

I thank the member for the question. The following information has been provided to me by the Minister for Mines and Petroleum.

(1) The Australian Energy Market Operator publishes a ''Gas Statement of Opportunities'' every year, which includes domestic gas demand projections and expected exports for Western Australia. I table the 2018 report.

[See paper 3077.]

(2) No, there is no requirement for such a strategy.
