Parliamentary Questions

Question On Notice No. 1567 asked in the Legislative Council on 14 August 2018 by Hon Martin Aldridge

Question Directed to the: Minister for Environment representing the Minister for Police
Parliament: 40 Session: 1

Question

I refer to the transportation of licensed firearms in Western Australia, and I ask:
(a) how many Approved Commercial Carriers are there in Western Australia;
(b) does Western Australia Police have a list of current Approved Commercial Carriers and, if so, would it provide a copy;
(c) since November 2017, have any Approved Commercial Carriers indicated to Western Australia Police that they no longer wish to be an Approved Commercial Carrier? If so, how many and whom; and
(d) have Western Australia Police rejected any applications for transport companies to become Approved Commercial Carriers? If so, on what basis and whom?

Answered on 19 September 2018

The Western Australia Police Force advise:

(a) 18

(b) Yes. A copy can be provided to the Member. The Western Australia Police Force advise that the list is no longer made public and is provided to licensed firearm dealers, repairers and manufactures through the Firearm Traders Association. This was due to a request from some of the approved carriers to the WA Firearm Traders Association citing security concerns.

(c) Yes, two (2). At the request of the applicants, the WA Police Force do not release the name of the applicant companies.

(d) Yes, one (1).
