WA COUNTRY HEALTH SERVICE
— UNSAFE WORKPLACE ALLEGATIONS
166. Hon
JAMES HAYWARD to the Leader of the House representing the Minister for
Health:
I refer to a report in today's
The West Australian in relation to the toxic culture and unsafe working
conditions at Bunbury Hospital at South West Health Campus.
(1) Considering
the ongoing allegations of bullying and an unsafe workplace at both Bunbury
Hospital and Albany Health Campus, does the minister concede that there may be
a problem?
(2) Has the
minister requested management changes at the WA Country Health Service
considering reports that Western Australian health executives have expressed
concerns about the lack of transparency and delayed responses from WACHS
management?
(3) If no to part (2), why not?
(4) Is the minister concerned the ongoing reports of
mismanagement and distrust of leadership within WACHS is eroding
community and employee trust in our regional public hospitals?
Hon SUE
ELLERY replied:
(1) The WA
Country Health Service is actively managing workforce issues at both sites. I am
satisfied that these actions are having positive impacts on workplace culture.
(2)–(3) Not applicable.
There was no delay in responses or a lack of transparency.
(4) The WA
Country Health Service, together with management and staff at both hospitals,
are taking positive action to address workplace culture issues. I will continue
to support their efforts.
