FERAL ANIMAL MANAGEMENT —
UNALLOCATED CROWN LAND
1520. Hon RICK MAZZA to the Minister for Environment:
I refer to the 22 November 2019 ABC
News article titled ''Feral animal invasion leads WA graziers to renew
call for access to restricted firearms'' in which Wiluna pastoralist Tim
Carmody stated that the reinfestation of camels on his station is from
unallocated crown land. What pest control measures are being undertaken on
unallocated crown land to help landholders control feral animals?
Hon
STEPHEN DAWSON replied:
I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
The
Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions undertakes feral
animal control on unallocated crown land to address priority conservation
threats and neighbour impacts. This includes delivering collaborative feral
animal control with the Department of Primary Industries and Regional
Development, recognised biosecurity groups and other organisations, such as Desert Support Services,
with which a contract is in place to deliver camel control on native title
lands. The DBCA also partners with multiple recreational hunting groups to
deliver feral animal control across different land tenures, including UCL, to
increase the effectiveness of feral animal management in Western Australia.
