Question Without Notice No. 401 asked in the Legislative Council on 16 August 2017 by Hon Tjorn Sibma

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

DEPARTMENT OF THE PREMIER AND CABINET — DIRECTOR GENERAL — APPOINTMENT
      401. Hon TJORN SIBMA to the Leader of the House representing the Premier:
I refer to the article in The West Australian on 26 July 2017, entitled ''Public Sector Commission: The chamber of secrets surrounding WA's top job'' concerning the appointment of Mr Darren Foster to the position of director general of the Department of the Premier and Cabinet.
      (1) How many applicants applied for the position of director general of the Department of the Premier and Cabinet, including Mr Foster?
      (2) How many of those applicants were from the private sector, the Western Australian public service, or the commonwealth public service?
      (3) How many of the applicants possessed private sector and/or public sector experience at a level equivalent to, or higher than, that of the previous deputy director general of the Department of Fisheries?
Hon SUE ELLERY replied:
I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question.
The Public Sector Commission advises the following.
(1) Ten applications were received.
      (2) Four applications were from outside the public sector, five were from the WA public sector, and one was from another public sector jurisdiction.
(3) Applications indicated that all candidates had senior leadership experience.
