Question Without Notice No. 498 asked in the Legislative Council on 20 May 2020 by Hon Peter Collier

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

CORRUPTION AND CRIME COMMISSIONER — REAPPOINTMENT

498. Hon PETER COLLIER to the Leader of the House representing the Premier:

I ask this question on behalf of Hon Michael Mischin, who is away on urgent parliamentary business.

I refer to the Premier's response to my question without notice 455 of 19 May 2020 on communications between the Premier and the member for Kalamunda, Mr Matthew Hughes, MLA, who is a member of the Joint Standing Committee on the Corruption and Crime Commission, on the appointment of the Corruption and Crime Commissioner.

(1) Apart from the two letters to the JSCCCC, has the Premier spoken to or communicated, directly or indirectly, with Mr Hughes about the reappointment of Hon John McKechnie?

(2) If yes to (1), on what occasions, by what means and what was the substance of what was said or the communication?

(3) If no to (1), will the Premier specifically say so?

(4) Has the Premier, directly or indirectly, advised Mr Hughes that he would have the Premier's or the government's support if he were to be publicly critical of the JSCCCC or any member of it?

(5) If yes to (4), on what occasions, by what means and what was the substance of that advice?

(6) If no to (4), will the Premier specifically say so?

Hon SUE ELLERY replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question.
