ELLENBROOK RAIL LINE —
WHITEMAN PARK
1045. Hon SIMON O'BRIEN to the minister representing
the Minister for Transport:
I refer to a Channel Seven news
report on 15 September 2019 regarding the Morley–Ellenbrook rail line
utilising Whiteman Park, in which, according to my notes, the member for Perth
stated, ''We are talking about an area that is close to urbanisation and
that the Liberals proposed to build a cemetery'' and that was reported ''could
only go ahead with environmental approval''.
(1) Does the
proposed route of the Morley–Ellenbrook rail line announced by the
minister on 4 August 2019 require the entire Marshall Road land as shown in the
''Final Whiteman Park Strategic Plan 2017–2021''?
(2) When will
environmental approval be sought to allow for a rail corridor through Whiteman
Park?
(3) Will the
government guarantee that no part of Whiteman Park required for the proposed
route of the Morley–Ellenbrook rail line will be used for future urban
development?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. The following answer has been provided by the
Minister for Transport.
(1) No.
(2)–(3) The
project will require environmental assessment, as do all similar infrastructure
projects. It should be noted that the former
government planned NorthLink WA through the middle of Whiteman Park, including
Bush Forever land.
