Parliamentary Questions

Question On Notice No. 1177 asked in the Legislative Council on 12 April 2018 by Hon Alison Xamon

Question Directed to the: Leader of the House representing the Minister for Child Protection
Parliament: 40 Session: 1

Question

I refer to parents who have a diagnosed intellectual disability and who have children who are aged under 18 years, and I ask:
(a) how many of these families have been identified as requiring parenting support;
(b) how many of these families have had children placed into the care of the CEO;
(c) how many currently receive parenting support; and
(d) what is the nature of the support provided?

Answered on 14 June 2018

(a) – (d) The Department of Communities does not capture the level of data to be able to identify whether people diagnosed with an intellectual disability have children aged under 18 years. Similarly, when families have been identified as needing parenting support or when children are placed in the care of the CEO, the Department does not capture the level of data to identify if a parent has been diagnosed with an intellectual disability.
