LAPORTE JETTY — AUSTRALIND
970. Hon Dr STEVE THOMAS to the minister representing the
Minister for Water:
I refer to the January 2021 closure
of Laporte jetty in Australind initiated by the Department of Water and
Environmental Regulation.
(1) What is the
status of the Laporte jetty structural assessment instigated by DWER and, if
the report has been completed, when was it completed?
(2) If the
Laporte structural assessment has been completed, will the minister table the
report; and, if not, why not?
(3) Since the
closure of Laporte jetty, what engagement has DWER had with the Shire of
Harvey, and will the minister table all such communications?
(4) What public
information strategy has DWER implemented since the closure of Laporte jetty,
and will the minister table the strategy; and, if not, why not?
Hon
ALANNAH MacTIERNAN replied:
I thank the
member for the question. The Minister for Water has provided the following
information.
(1)–(4) In late 2020 a member of the public fell and
injured herself while walking on the boardwalk of Laporte jetty. After
consultation with the Shire of Harvey, the jetty was closed in January 2021 to
protect the public from further accidents. A
structural assessment has been completed and is being considered by government.
The structural assessment will be released following its consideration by
government.
The Department of Water and
Environmental Regulation has erected signage at the jetty and continues to
engage with the Shire of Harvey.
