COMMISSIONER FOR CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE — APPOINTMENT

919. Hon DONNA FARAGHER to the Leader of the House representing the Attorney General:

I refer to the Commissioner for Children and Young People, whose term expires in November 2020.

(1) Pursuant to section 7 of the Commissioner for Children and Young People Act 2006, what steps have been, and are being, taken towards selecting and appointing a commissioner; and, if no steps have been taken, why not?

(2) For any steps that have been taken, will the Attorney General please advise the dates on which they were initiated and completed and the current status of the appointment process?

(3) Has a recommendation for appointment been made to the Premier; and, if yes, when?

(4) Does the government intend to announce the appointment of a commissioner when the term of the current commissioner expires; and, if not, why not?

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question.

(1)–(4) The appointment process with respect to the position of Commissioner for Children and Young People is ongoing and is presently subject to cabinet and Executive Council confidentiality. An announcement will be made in due course.
