Parliament: 40 Session: 1

RACING INDUSTRY — STRATEGIC PLAN

607. Hon COLIN HOLT to the minister representing the Minister for Racing and Gaming:

(1) Will the minister please table the strategic plan for the racing industry?

(2) If there is no overarching strategic plan for the industry, will the minister please table the strategic plans for each of the racing codes?

(3) Are any of the strategic plans available online?

(4) If yes to (3), will the minister please provide the URLs?

(5) If the strategic plan is not available online, could the minister please explain how members of the industry and the public can obtain a copy of the strategic plan or plans?

Hon ALANNAH MacTIERNAN replied:

I thank the member for the question. The following information has been provided to me by the Minister for Racing and Gaming.

(1) Yes. I table the plan.

[See paper 1622.]

(2) Not applicable.

(3) A high-level summary is available online, as well as the call for submissions on the strategies identified for each code and the associated presentations dated February 2017, which provide more detailed information on the racing code strategic plans.

(4) The high-level summary appears at the address that will form part of the answer in the document that I have tabled. Likewise, the address for the strategic racing plans will.

(5) Racing and Wagering Western Australia conducts regular open consultation sessions with the racing industry throughout the state, including in regional centres, to provide the opportunity for industry feedback and updates, including on the racing code strategic plans. The most recent of these sessions were conducted in May 2018. Additionally, RWWA conducts regular consultation with eligible bodies at consultative meetings and racing committees, and any member of those eligible bodies can contact their representative for any information, including code plan updates. This is in accordance with section 82(2) of the Racing and Wagering Western Australia Act 2003. A summary of the high-level objectives is also available online.
