ATTORNEY GENERAL —
TRAVEL
1374. Hon MICHAEL MISCHIN to the Leader of the House
representing the Attorney General:
I refer to the Attorney General's
travel and activities over the weekend of 17 and 18 November 2018.
(1) I refer to
his attendance at the RISE 2018 National Conference in Sydney on 17 November
where he participated in a panel discussing ''A day in the life of an
Attorney General''.
(a) Was that trip
paid for out of public funds; and, if so, what was the total cost of the
attendance and return?
(b) Please table
the itinerary for the trip.
(c) Was he
accompanied by any staff; and, if so, who and why?
(d) Aside from
self-promotion, what benefit did Western Australians derive from the trip?
(2) I refer to his travel to Margaret River and return
with his spouse by government King Air aircraft on 17 and 18 November.
(a) What was the
official business for which he was attending Margaret River?
(b) Please table
the itinerary for the excursion.
(c) What was the
total cost of the flights?
(d) Please detail
the expenses charged to the public purse for that excursion.
Hon SUE
ELLERY replied:
I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. The love that dare not speak its name continues!
(1) (a) Yes. The cost of flights and
accommodation totalled $4 571.14.
(b) See the paper
attached that I will table.
(c) No.
(d) The purpose
was not self-promotion. The Attorney General, along with interstate
counterparts Mark Speakman and Vickie Chapman,
were invited to participate in the Australian Bar Association RISE 2018
National Conference panel discussion focusing on law reform and differences
between state and federal processes of reform.
(2) (a) The
Attorney General represented the Minister for Tourism at the Gourmet Escape
event of that year.
(b) I will table
the attached information.
(c) All costs
associated with travelling on government aircraft are covered under the primary
contract and are not able to be attributed to a single booking.
(d) The only cost
of this nature was a night's hotel accommodation in Margaret River,
which was charged to Minister Papalia's office, totalling $234.
