Question On Notice No. 2931 asked in the Legislative Council on 12 May 2020 by Hon Dr Steve Thomas

Question Directed to the: Parliamentary Secretary representing the Minister for Health
Parliament: 40 Session: 1

Question

I refer to complaints made by Mr Frederick John Dyke of Albany, of an alleged assault on him by security staff at the Albany Health Campus in July 2019, and I ask:
(a) has the Minister for Health received such a complaint;
(b) has the Minister's office investigated that complaint;
(c) what was the result of that investigation;
(d) does security footage of Albany Health Campus show the alleged assault;
(e) has there been any allegation of Mr Dyke engaging in any violent or untoward behaviour at the same time as the alleged incident;
(f) if yes to (e), does the security footage of Albany Health Campus show this behaviour; and
(g) what steps has the Minister taken to resolve this issue?

Answered on 25 June 2020

(a) Yes.

(b) The Minister’s office referred to the WA Country Health Service (WACHS) to take steps to resolve this matter.

(c) Not applicable.

(d) No.

(e) Yes.

(f) CCTV footage of the incident is inconclusive.  Mr Dyke can be seen to raise his hand towards a security guard, but the door closes at that point obscuring vision of the remainder of the incident.

(g) The Minister’s office has requested WACHS take steps to resolve the matter.
