Question Without Notice No. 749 asked in the Legislative Council on 1 November 2017 by Hon Ken Baston

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

BROOME PORT — DREDGING
      749. Hon KEN BASTON to the minister representing the Minister for Transport:
I refer to the report in the Broome Advertiser, published on Wednesday, 25 October 2017, regarding the government's commitment to dredging the Broome port, which states that the access channel will be dredged next year.
      (1) What assessments are required to take place before dredging of the Broome port channel can proceed?
      (2) Is the minister confident that the dredging will take place in 2018?
Hon STEPHEN DAWSON replied:
I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question.
      (1) The required assessments include a sampling analysis plan, a geophysical survey, a metocean study and an environmental impact assessment.
      (2) The Kimberley Ports Authority has commenced the studies and dredging is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2018, based on a suitable dredge being available.
