Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 301 asked in the Legislative Council on 8 May 2018 by Hon Colin Holt

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

AUSTRALIND — REVIEW
      301. Hon COLIN HOLT to the minister representing the Minister for Transport:
(1) What is the current status of the Australind train service review?
(2) When will the review be released to the public?
(3) Will the minister please table the current Australind train schedule?
      (4) Will any stations on the Australind line have a change in services as a result of the review, and what will those changes be?
(5) When will the Australind rail infrastructure review commence?
(6) When will the new railcars be commissioned?
Hon STEPHEN DAWSON replied:
I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question.
      (1) In April 2018, the transport portfolio was informed that a submission for commonwealth support to investigate infrastructure requirements to improve the Perth–Bunbury rail corridor had been unsuccessful. The Public Transport Authority is currently examining alternative funding options.
      (2) When the review is complete, the finding will be announced.
      (3) I table the attached document.
      [See paper 1326.]
(4) It is too early to determine what effect any service improvements will have upon existing stations.
      (5) The Australind-related line infrastructure will be reviewed as part of the service improvement review, noting that this is only in the context of whether service improvements can occur.
      (6) The PTA is currently engaging with industry about the supply of urban electric railcars and a diesel regional railcar.
