ELECTRIC VEHICLES —
CHARGING POINTS
1066. Hon TIM CLIFFORD to the minister representing the
Minister for Energy:
Last week, on 21 October, The
Australian reported that a network of ultra-fast electric vehicle recharge
stations powered exclusively by renewable energy will receive $6 million in
funding from the federal government and that range anxiety is cited as a major
reason for the lack of uptake of electric vehicles. This is especially the case
in Western Australia, which is so geographically dispersed. The article goes on
to state that of the 21 stations to be built, only three stations will be
located in WA, north and south of Perth.
(1) Is the minister aware of where
these will be located; and, if so, where will they be located?
(2) Noting that
the government's Western Australian electric vehicle working group has
identified infrastructure as a key deliverable, will the minister provide an
indication of when we will see new charging stations being funded and installed
by the WA government?

(1) No.
(2) The WA
electric vehicle working group was formed in 2017 and is chaired by the Department
of Water and Environmental Regulation. Main Roads WA, in conjunction with the
University of Western Australia, is leading a research project that is still in
progress on priority locations, types and requirements for electric vehicle
infrastructure in Western Australia.
