SINGLE-USE PLASTICS
1064. Hon TJORN SIBMA to the minister representing the
Minister for Environment:
I refer to those categories of single-use
and disposable plastics that will be banned by the end of this year under stage
1 of the minister's fast-tracked Western Australia's Plan for
Plastics.
(1) Which
specific supply chain issues have retailers and suppliers identified to the
Department of Water and Environmental Regulation as requiring ''consideration''?
(2) Will this ''consideration''
extend to revising the date on which the ban on single-use plastic cups, bowls,
thick plastic bags and plastic-lined plates comes into effect?
Hon
STEPHEN DAWSON replied:
I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. The following answer has been provided to me by
the Minister for Environment.
(1) The supply
chain issues relate to availability of alternatives as a result of COVID-19.
(2) These items
remain in stage 1 of the Plan for Plastics, which will commence on 1 January
2022.
