LANDS — MURUJUGA
ABORIGINAL CORPORATION
834. Hon ROBIN CHAPPLE to the minister representing the
Minister for Lands:
My question without notice of which
some notice has been given is to the Minister for Planning.
I
refer to the 221-hectare area of land known as site L, which was ceded to the
Murujuga Aboriginal Corporation on Thursday, 25 July 2019; temporary reserve
70/6697; and crown reserve 49120, designated for industrial development.
(1) Given that the map attached to the announcement is
of the reservation outlined in schedule 5 of the Burrup non-industrial
land of the Burrup and Maitland Industrial Estates Agreement,
will the BMIEA be amended to include this land?
(2) If no to (1), why not?
(3) Will crown reserve 49120,
designating the area for industrial development, be removed?
(4) If no to (3), why not?
(5) Will temporary reserve 70/6697
be amended to exclude site L from its boundaries?
(6) If no to (6), why not?
Hon
STEPHEN DAWSON replied:
I
thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. I am answering
this question representing the Minister for Lands, not the Minister for
Planning. The following information has been provided by the Minister for
Lands.
(1) No.
(2) It is not
necessary to amend the Burrup and Maitland Industrial Estates Agreement. The
BMIEA is an agreement pursuant to section 31 of the Native Title Act 1993,
which enables the creation of industrial and non-industrial land in the Burrup
and Maitland areas. The recent transfer of additional land in freehold tenure to
the Murujuga Aboriginal Corporation is the result of a separate commitment by
the Premier to MAC dated February 2019.
(3) Reserve 49120 has been amended
to exclude lot 589 from its ''industrial'' designation.
(4) Not applicable.
(5)–(6) This question needs
to be referred to the Minister for Mines and Petroleum.
