Question
I refer to transgender and gender diverse individuals in prisons across Western Australia, and the important role hormone replacement therapy plays in maintaining their health and wellbeing, and I ask:
(a) is hormone replacement therapy available to transgender and gender diverse inmates;
(b) if yes to (a), to what extent and under which conditions is it available to transgender and gender diverse inmates; and
(c) if no to (a), why not?

The Department of Justice advises:
- Yes.
- If a person is received into prison and is already undergoing hormone replacement therapy that has been prescribed by a Specialist in the community, Corrective Services Health Services will continue treatment in consultation with the treating specialist.
- Not applicable.
