Question Without Notice No. 696 asked in the Legislative Council on 12 October 2017 by Hon Colin Tincknell
Parliament: 40 Session: 1
METRONET — YANCHEP EXTENSION
696. Hon COLIN TINCKNELL to the minister representing the Minister for Transport:
(1) How many people in the northern sector are expected to benefit from the planned extension of Metronet to Yanchep?
(2) Given the government's economic predicament as it currently stands, would it not be a plausible option to delay the $520.2 million extension of the Joondalup line to Yanchep? Such a delay would allow for capital works to be continued into the future and not completed in a short span of time.
This is a follow-up to my question that the Minister for Regional Development said she was going to answer today regarding the 50 per cent local content target.
Hon STEPHEN DAWSON replied:
I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question.
(1)–(2) The project will provide vital access to rail public transport services for a forecast population of approximately 140 000 people by 2041in the region from Alkimos to Two Rocks. The government is committed to delivering our election commitments.
