POLICE — CRIME
STATISTICS — NEWMAN
1284. Hon JACQUI BOYDELL to the minister representing the
Minister for Police:
I refer to Western Australia Police
Force crime statistics from January this year to date.
In the town of Newman —
(a) how many assaults against police
were recorded;
(b) how many
assaults against medical personnel, including ambulance volunteers, were
recorded;
(c) how many offences of graffiti
were noted; and
(d) how many selected offences
against property were recorded?
Hon STEPHEN DAWSON
replied:
I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. The following answer has been provided to me by
the Minister for Police.
The Western Australian Police Force
advises the following.
(a) There were seven assaults against
police recorded.
(b) The level of
detail required to disaggregate assaults against medical personnel from other
victim types in Western Australia Police Force data holdings is not readily
available and would require a significant diversion of police resources to
attempt to identify.
(c) There were nine offences of
graffiti noted.
(d) There were 472 selected offences
against property recorded.
There are some notes. Information
extracted is for the period 1 January 2019 to 29 October 2019 inclusive and was
extracted from the incident management system on 30 October 2019. Statistics
are provisional and subject to revision. Assaults against police officers are
determined using the offence reporting group of assault when the victim is
recorded as a police officer. Graffiti consists of offences against section 444(1)(b)
or section 445 of the Criminal Code Act 1913 when the property damage is
recorded as being graffiti in the IMS. Selected offences against property
consists of the offence reporting groups of burglary, stealing of motor
vehicle, stealing, and property damage and arson.
