CHILDCARE CENTRES — SAFETY BREACHES
255. Hon DONNA FARAGHER to the parliamentary secretary
representing the Minister for Community Services:
I refer to the WAtoday article titled ''More than 40
WA childcare centres sanctioned for safety breaches'', dated 13 April
2021, which reported that the state government had initiated enforcement action
against more than 40 childcare centres since 2019 and that a review was
underway into reporting processes.
(1) When did the review commence?
(2) Who is undertaking the review and what are the terms of
reference?
(3) When is the review expected to be finalised and will it
be made public?
Hon SAMANTHA ROWE replied:
I thank the member for some notice of the question. I provide
the following answer on behalf of the Minister for Community Services.
(1)–(3)
In April 2021, the acting director of the Department of Communities'
education and care regulatory unit advised that Communities was reviewing its
website content. The Department of Communities undertook to improve access to
information on regulatory outcomes to the early education sector and wider
public. A new landing page on the WA
government website went live on 24 May 2021, and all public enforcement
outcomes are now on this site and are searchable. Ensuring access to quality
information on childcare options remains a key objective of the education and
care regulatory unit.
