CHILD PROTECTION —
1445. Hon NICK GOIRAN to the Leader of the House representing
the Minister for Child Protection:
I refer to question without notice
1260, which referred to the relocation of thousands of confidential documents relating to child protection cases that had been
accessed by vandals in the unoccupied and unsecured McCall Centre in
(1) If, as the
minister advised the house, the documents were relocated from 16 to 23 October
2019, why was the assistant director general corporate operations reported as
saying that ''any remaining documents have been relocated to a more
secure facility'' on 17 October 2019?
(2) Given that
the minister and the assistant director cannot both be correct, what remedial
steps will now be taken to correct whichever record is incorrect?
I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) The McCall
Centre is made up of four separate freestanding buildings. One building was
subject to a break and enter offence, subsequent vandalism, trespass and
accessibility to documents, as reported in the media. Accessible documents in
this building were secured and relocated by staff on 16 October 2019.
(2) The remaining
buildings, which were secure at that time, were opened, and any documentation
was secured between 17 and 23 October 2019.
