MIGRATION —
FEDERAL LABOR POLICY
495. Hon
CHARLES SMITH to the minister representing the Treasurer:
I refer to the recent election
campaign announcement of federal Labor's family visa program.
(1) Has the
Treasury conducted any analysis similar to the New South Wales state government
that would indicate how many additional aged migrants would arrive from
overseas?
(2) If yes to (1), how many?
(3) If no to (1), why not?
(4) Does the
government concede that hospitals, infrastructure and services in Perth are
already overloaded, as recently demonstrated by hospital bed overcrowding
issues, including patients dying waiting for a bed, ambulance ramping and road
congestion, all of which will only get much worse under this policy?
Hon
STEPHEN DAWSON replied:
I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) No.
(2) Not
applicable.
(3) Treasury
works with the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage to prepare and update
forecasts of population growth to inform budget and planning decision-making.
It does not separately analyse the impact of federal election announcements.
(4) No.
