ON-DEMAND TRANSPORT INDUSTRY
384. Hon ROBIN SCOTT to the minister representing the
Minister for Transport:
(1) In
discussions with representatives of the taxi industry or in correspondence with
representatives of the taxi industry, has the minister or the minister's
department made reference to a possible cap on the number of new taxi licences?
(2) Is there presently any plan for
a cap on new licences; and, if so, what is the detail of such a plan?
Hon
STEPHEN DAWSON replied:
I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1)–(2) On 17 March 2018, the minister announced that
following further consultation there would be a removal of the cap on the
number of taxi vehicles authorised to operate. This decision was made to give
all on-demand transport providers the freedom to expand and diversify
the services offered to customers.
