Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 479 asked in the Legislative Council on 11 August 2021 by Hon Nick Goiran

Parliament: 41 Session: 1

WORKERS' COMPENSATION AND INJURY MANAGEMENT BILL 2021 —PUBLIC SUBMISSIONS

479. Hon NICK GOIRAN to the Minister for Industrial Relations:

I refer to the minister's announcement today that public submissions can be made on the draft workers' compensation bill. Will the submissions be made public?

Hon STEPHEN DAWSON replied:

I thank the honourable member for the question. He is indeed correct; I did issue a press release today relating to a draft bill to modernise workers' compensation laws. This is, of course, me acting and delivering on the 2021 election commitment that was made to progress a bill that will modernise workers' compensation laws in Western Australia. Public submissions are now open for a three-month period, which will close on 10 November this year. No decision has been made at this stage about whether the submissions that will be received as part of the process will be released. I take it by the honourable member asking the question that he has an interest in those submissions being publicly released, so I am happy to take that issue on notice and consider it.
