LIQUOR RESTRICTIONS — KIMBERLEY
497. Hon KEN BASTON to the minister representing the
Minister for Racing and Gaming:
I refer to the article that appeared
on page 4 of the 18 May edition of The West Australian about the
pending announcement of restrictions on how much alcohol can be carried in a vehicle
within the Kimberley.
(1) Is the minister aware of when
these measures will be announced?
(2) Will there be
simple and appropriate exemptions available to tourism businesses and remote
workers, such as those on pastoral properties?
Hon
ALANNAH MacTIERNAN replied:
I thank the member for the question.
The following information has been provided by the Minister for Racing and Gaming.
(1) Regulations
to prescribe carriage limits of liquor in prescribed areas of the state are
currently being developed specific to the Kimberley region. Following
consultation with the relevant stakeholders, the regulations will be finalised
and introduced as soon as possible.
(2) Yes.
