BOAT HARBOUR — BROOME
770. Hon KEN BASTON to the minister representing the
Minister for Transport:
I
refer to the Shire of Broome media release dated 22 February ''Broome
Safe Boat Harbour project enters next phase''.
(1) Could the
minister please provide an update on what progress has been made towards
providing a safe boat harbour in Broome?
(2) What portion
of the $1 million allocated to this project has been spent and what has it been
spent on?
(3) Can the
minister provide an indication of when a business case will be finalised and a concept
plan will be publicly available?
Hon
STEPHEN DAWSON replied:
I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) The Broome
Boat Harbour Advisory Committee has identified a suitable site between the port's
jetty and entrance point.
(2) Approximately
$300 000 has been spent and/or committed to the project. This expenditure
includes completion of the dinosaur trackway investigation; a heritage survey;
collection of extensive bathymetric and
oceanographic data; the appointment of consultants for coastal modelling—waves,
currents, sediment; the appointment of consultants for preliminary
engineering design and associated investigations; and the appointment of
environmental consultants.
(3) The Shire of
Broome is currently leading the heritage and community engagement process, and
concept plans are being prepared to support this process. Once local support is
established, the technical work and development of the business case and
concept plans can be finalised.
