Question Without Notice No. 510 asked in the Legislative Council on 5 September 2017 by Hon Ken Baston

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

CONTAMINATED SITES — EXMOUTH
      510. Hon KEN BASTON to the Minister for Environment:
I refer to the answer to question without notice 486 asked on Thursday, 24 August regarding contaminated sites in Exmouth.
      (1) What types of contaminants were found at the former power station site comprising lots 300 and 301 on deposited plan 406333?
(2) When was the earliest known episode of contamination at this site?
(3) When was the most recent known episode of contamination at this site?
Hon STEPHEN DAWSON replied:
I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question.
      (1) The former power station site on lots 300 and 301 on deposited plan 406333 is contaminated with hydrocarbons from diesel and oil.
      (2) The contamination at the former power station was first identified during a site inspection by the then Department of Environmental Protection in 2000. The former power station commenced operation around 1960, and the diesel contamination has been dated at around 30 years old.
      (3) Potentially contaminating activities ceased when the former power station was decommissioned in 2008.
