LAVERTON AIRPORT
1315. Hon ROBIN SCOTT to the minister representing the
Minister for Transport:
I refer to plans to upgrade the
terminal of Laverton Airport, accommodating increasing demand on the airport,
which supports the community and surrounding industries.
(1) Is the state government
supportive of the proposal to upgrade the airport terminal?
(2) If no to (1), why not?
(3) If yes to
(1), will the government set aside funding in the state budget to contribute to
the upgrade of the terminal?
(4) Will the government commit to
supporting the terminal upgrade ahead of the 2021 state election?
Hon
STEPHEN DAWSON replied:
I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. The following answer has been provided to me by
the Minister for Transport.
(1)–(4) The
Department of Transport and the Shire of Laverton are currently working
together to develop a Laverton Airport
strategic airport assets and financial management framework. The framework will
allow the Department of Transport to
investigate the benefits and costs of an upgraded Laverton Airport terminal
and consider the contributions the various users of the terminal, particularly
the mining industry, could make towards this
project. Over the past five years more than $600 000 has been allocated towards
upgrades at Laverton Airport through the regional airports development
scheme.
