Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 1079 asked in the Legislative Council on 25 September 2019 by Hon Colin Holt

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

TOURISM — AUSTRALIND SERVICE

1079. Hon COLIN HOLT to the minister representing the Minister for Tourism:

I refer to the specific tourism packages being developed for Bunbury, Collie and the surrounding communities linked to a revitalised Australind service, as outlined in WA Labor's plan for train services to Bunbury.

(1) What has been done to deliver these packages to date?

(2) What has been the expenditure for the development of these packages to date, and can the minister please provide a breakdown?

(3) When will draft packages be released for community and industry feedback?

(4) What is the time line for finalisation of the packages?

Hon ALANNAH MacTIERNAN replied:

I thank the member for notice of the question.

(1)–(4) The election commitment was for the development of tourism packages associated with delivering a revitalised Australind rail service. This government is delivering on that commitment. Last month the Minister for Transport announced $1.28 million of upgrades at the North Dandalup and Cookernup stations, and that Alstom had been selected as the preferred proponent to deliver six new Australind railcars. The development of tourism packages will be considered once the revitalisation of the Australind rail service is complete.

Several members interjected.

The PRESIDENT: Order! You had your go.
