Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 866 asked in the Legislative Council on 20 August 2019 by Hon Colin Holt

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

POLICE — RETIREMENTS AND RESIGNATIONS

866. Hon COLIN HOLT to the minister representing the Minister for Police:

I refer to the Western Australia Police Force.

(1) How many police officers retired or resigned in 2017, 2018 and 2019?

(2) Does the WA Police Force undertake exit surveys; and, if yes, what are the top three reasons for officers departing the force?

(3) How many police officers are currently employed by the WA Police Force?

Hon STEPHEN DAWSON replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. The following answer has been provided to me by the Minister for Police.

(1)–(3) It is advised that the number of police officer resignations/retirements is generally lower than in previous years. The Western Australia Police Force undertakes exit surveys. The WA Police Force advises that detailed information from the exit surveys is not available. However, retirement is a common reason for resignation. The Western Australia Police Force is funded for an authorised sworn strength of 6 350 officers.
