DOMESTIC GAS RESERVATION POLICY — EXPORTS
801. Hon PETER COLLIER to the Leader of the House
representing the Premier:
Madam President, today I have two questions, plus I have six
from other members. There is a lot of parliamentary business going on!
The PRESIDENT: There must be.
Hon PETER COLLIER: I refer
to the response to question without notice 780 asked on 18 August 2020
regarding changes to the domestic gas policy, in which it was stated —
Domestic gas developers have been
asking for approval to export so there has been consultation.
I also refer to a further response to question without notice
781 on the same matter, which states —
The Premier has not met with
Mitsui E&P Australia and Beach Energy with respect to the change in
domestic gas policy.
(1) Are these
comments inconsistent or mutually exclusive; and, if not, why not?
(2) If the
Premier did consult with domestic gas developers, but not Mitsui E&P
Australia and Beach Energy, which companies did he consult with and which
projects are they seeking to export from?
Hon SUE
ELLERY replied:
I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) No.
(2) Domestic gas developers have been asking for
approval to export, so the position of the industry was well known. The
government's intention to change the domestic gas policy was not discussed
with any developers.
