PRIVACY COMMISSIONER
722. Hon ALISON XAMON to the Leader of the House
representing the Attorney General:
I refer to the government's
proposal to appoint a privacy commissioner and to introduce legislation to
better protect privacy.
(1) Has any
funding been allocated to this project?
(2) If yes to
(1), how much funding has been allocated?
(3) If no to (1),
why not?
(4) When is it
anticipated that this legislation will be introduced?
Hon SUE
ELLERY replied:
I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1)–(4) The
privacy and responsible information sharing project under the McGowan
government's public sector reform program has been one of the many
reform projects prioritised and delivered through existing resources by the McGowan government. I refer the
member to the Premier's announcement on 26 March 2020 that a number
of initiatives such as those under the McGowan government's public
sector reform program were put on hold to allow the government to focus on the
COVID-19 response. As such, the project has been delayed but continues to be a priority.
