Question Without Notice No. 574 asked in the Legislative Council on 12 September 2017 by Hon Aaron Stonehouse
Parliament: 40 Session: 1
PRIMARY SCHOOLS — 2017–18 STATE BUDGET
574. Hon AARON STONEHOUSE to the Minister for Education and Training:
I note a number of reallocations of internal resources in the course of the budget papers tabled last week. In particular, I note the reallocation of $146.8 million over the forward estimates and a further $8.6 million from beyond 2020–21 to fund the delivery of 10 new primary schools.
(1) Which projects were those substantial amounts of money originally allocated to?
(2) What work has been either abandoned, downscaled or delayed as a result of those reallocations?
Hon SUE ELLERY replied:
I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question.
(1) The $146.8 million was allocated for new primary schools to be constructed from 2017–18 to 2020–21 and commencing operation in 2019 and subsequent years. The funding was from the ''New primary schools'' line item in the 2016–17 budget. New primary schools are announced two years in advance of opening.
(2) As new primary schools in future years have not been previously announced or had funding allocated, no work has been abandoned, downscaled or delayed.
