CORONAVIRUS —
RESIDENTIAL TENANCIES
771. Hon TIM CLIFFORD to the minister representing the
Minister for Commerce:
I
note the option for the state government to extend the moratorium on
residential evictions beyond the 30 September end date and I refer to
the response provided to Legislative Council questions without notice 735 and
748.
(1) What
advertising and promotional work has the McGowan government undertaken to
ensure that residential tenants are aware of the rental relief and support
available to them?
(2) Is the
McGowan government considering extending the moratorium on residential
evictions beyond 30 September?
(3) If the funding allocated to the residential rental
relief grant scheme is not fully exhausted by 30 September, will the
McGowan government extend the program beyond that end date?
Hon
ALANNAH MacTIERNAN replied:
I thank the member for the
question.
The Minister for Commerce has
provided the following information.
(1) In addition
to the media coverage following the launch of the residential rent relief grant
scheme, the scheme has its own dedicated website. The Department of Mines,
Industry Regulation and Safety's Consumer Protection division has sent
direct emails to approximately 300 000 tenants and landlords regarding the
scheme. Targeted information videos have been aired on on-demand television and
online, and through social media and radio outlets, including advertisements in
Farsi, Mandarin, Filipino and Vietnamese and targeted Indigenous media
channels. Consumer Protection has distributed flyers, as have libraries
statewide. Training videos have also been developed for the real estate
industry.
(2)–(3) The matter is under
consideration.
