Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 350 asked in the Legislative Council on 16 April 2020 by Hon Alison Xamon

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

CORONAVIRUS — SCHOOLS

350. Hon ALISON XAMON to the Minister for Education and Training:

(1) In the event that schools are required to remain closed for all or part of term 2, in addition to the children of essential workers, will schools also be open for students from vulnerable families, such as children living with grandparents and children in the child protection system; and for students who have no internet or computer access at home?

(2) If yes to (1), will every school be advised that they are expected to remain open for these children?

(3) Will curriculum and reengagement in education—CARE—schools be open for students to attend in term 2?

Hon SUE ELLERY replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question.

I preface my answer by advising that schools remained open during term time. They never closed. An announcement regarding operations in term 2 will be made shortly.

(1)–(3) Yes.
