FUEL FACILITIES — BUCCANEER ARCHIPELAGO
1044. Hon ALISON XAMON to the minister representing the
Minister for Mines and Petroleum:
I have two questions. The first is on behalf of Hon Robin
Chapple, who is out of the chamber on urgent parliamentary business. I believe
his question has been redirected to the Minister for Mines and Petroleum.
I refer to the proposed Buccaneer Marine Park and the
existence of floating fuel outlets in Dogleg Creek on the south side of Yampi
Sound.
(1) Are the fuel dispensary facilities licensed; and, if so,
by whom?
(2) If no to (1), why not?
(3) Will these licensed or unlicensed facilities be allowed
to remain once the marine park is declared?
(4) If these
facilities are unlicensed, what action will the government take to ensure that
they are either licensed or removed?
Hon ALANNAH MacTIERNAN
replied:
I thank the member for
some notice of the question. The following information has been provided by the
Minister for Mines and Petroleum.
(1) The
Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety has no record of licensed
fuel facilities in the Buccaneer Archipelago.
(2) Licensing
is only required if the storage for fuel, petrol, exceeds 10 000 litres or the
combustible liquid, diesel, exceeds 100 000 litres.
(3) The
Dangerous Goods Safety Act 2004 does not preclude the storage of dangerous
goods once a marine park is declared.
(4) Licensing
requirements cannot be enforced if the storage and handling quantity does not
exceed the licensable quantity.
