Question On Notice No. 93 asked in the Legislative Council on 29 June 2017 by Hon Nick Goiran
Question Directed to the: Leader of the House representing the Minister for Child Protection
Parliament: 40 Session: 1
Question
I refer to the Ministers' answer to my question on notice No. 25 regarding the work of the Department for Child Protection and Family Support (“the Department”) Screening Unit, and I ask:
(a) what was the reason for each of the 17 Negative Notices in the 2016 calendar year; and
(b) further to (a), what compliance action was required in each of the 17 cases?
Answered on 6 September 2017
(a) The reason a person is issued a Negative Notice under the Working with Children (Criminal Record Checking) Act 2004 (the Act) is not disclosed to the ‘employer’. Moreover, this is confidential information under the Act and cannot be publicly disclosed.
(b) Whenever an employee of the former Department for Child Protection and Family Support (CPFS) or a CPFS foster carer was issued with a negative notice, CPFS ensured that the person was not employed in ‘child-related’ work or caring for a child in care.
