Question Without Notice No. 364 asked in the Legislative Council on 15 August 2017 by Hon Charles Smith

Minister responding: Hon M.H. Roberts
Parliament: 40 Session: 1
Answered on 15 August 2017

      364. Hon CHARLES SMITH to the minister representing the Minister for Police:
I refer to the recent successes of Queensland police using body-worn cameras when attending domestic violence calls and the recording used as evidence-in-chief significantly reducing the frequently cruel cross-examination in court.
Does the minister have plans to introduce body-worn cameras for WA Police and allow the recorded evidence to be used in court; and, if not, why not?
I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. The following information has been provided to me by the Minister for Police.
The benefit of the use of body-worn cameras by WA Police is being evaluated. Consideration will be given to their use once that evaluation is complete.
