Parliament: 40 Session: 1

CHILD PROTECTION — CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE — ROEBOURNE
      555. Hon NICK GOIRAN to the Leader of the House representing the Minister for Child Protection:
I refer to the minister's opinion piece published in The West Australian on 6 July 2018 and her statement that, and I quote —
The Department of Communities also advises, based on current information, that there are no registered or charged adult offenders living or having regular contact with children associated with Operation Fledermaus.
(1) When did the minister receive that advice?
(2) Was that advice provided to the minister in writing?
(3) If yes to (2), will she table that document?
(4) If no to (2), what record was made of the verbal advice, and will the minister table that record?
Hon SUE ELLERY replied:
I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question.
      (1) Since being appointed, the Minister for Child Protection has received regular updates regarding Operation Fledermaus from the Department of Communities. These updates have included information regarding the children affected by these offences.
(2) In this instance, the minister received verbal advice on 2 July 2018.
(3) Not applicable.
(4) Due to the nature of this advice, no record was made.
